Coming into this new quarter, I wanted to find a new project to do. I finished Lego's For Riley, which was successful, and I wanted another project to be as successful. Whitney and I both didn't have a project, so I we brain stormed together. I've always had a passion for helping the homeless, so the best thing to do that, while COVID is going around, was a canned food drive. We decided to ask New Palestine Elementary to help us because we didn't think we would get as much participation at the high school. After deciding on the elementary school, we looked through different food pantries around new pal to donate the food to. We were looking at doing Kenneth Butler but they already had a donation coming in. I have volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and I know they are always in need of food. We called them and told them about our idea and they were so excited. I got the coordinators phone number so we could contact him personally when we are ready to drop the donations off. We called the elementary school to get them on board and they said they would love to help and their student council could help as well. The counselor also said they were setting up a food donations program at the elementary school for families who aren't as fortunate. So we are going to donate some cans to St. Vincent de Paul and some to New Palestine Elementary. We went to the Walmart and picked up 20 boxes for each grade. We wrote each teachers name on the box.. We also sent a blurb post to the school counselor so she can put it in the school newsletter. We are hoping to really get the word out about this food drive. We decided on the dates before spring break. The canned food drive will go from April 12-16. We are delivering the boxes today and can't wait for the drive to start!

The canned food drive ended and it was such a success. Mrs. Richwine, the NPE counselor, asked the NPE student council to sort through the cans and boxed food. In total, she said they collected 700 items. Some of those ideas, such as the snacky items went to their food pantry for students who need food during breaks and on the weekends. We went to the elementary school and collected the items for St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. We also found the winner. I emailed the teacher for how many kids were in her class and when the best time would be for a pizza party. We asked Mama Nitas if they were willing to give us a discount on 7 pizzas, since Mr. Large knows the manager. Whitney and I got chips and drinks the day before the party. The day of the pizza party, April 23rd, we showed up to NPE at 12:40 and brought the pizza, chips, and drinks to Mrs. Haun the winner of the canned food drive. We haven't delivered the cans to St. Vincent de Paul yet, but we are hoping to in the next week.

On Monday we took the boxes to St. Vincent de Paul. I called the coordinator and we drove up to the drop off. It was super easy. It was such a fun experience and really touching to know we'll be making a difference
